| dc.description.abstract | In this paper we discuss some issues in the conservation and protection of cultural and historical heritage in small towns in the new socio-economic and political situation in Poland after 1990. We present a typological classification and short retrospective description of the current state of preservation of historical heritage in those towns as well as degree of their development or collapse. We also give critical evaluation of the existing programs of revitalization and renewal of these towns. We show that there is an urgent need to develop strategies combining the protection and conservation of historical heritage with the conservation of the natural environment and with other aspects of social and economic life. We suggest that the main efforts should tend towards cooperation between the conservation services, the local authorities, the non-governmental organizations and private owners | |
